When throwing a party, you don’t want it to be boring, but coming up with an exciting idea can be difficult. We’ve put together some themed student party ideas to get your creative mind thinking.
Spring
After autumn and winter, it’s exciting when the days start to get longer and it becomes warmer outside. What better way to celebrate than by enjoying a drink in the sun?
A Classic Garden Party
To welcome Spring, decorate your garden with bunting, fairy lights, balloons and bright flowers. You could ask everyone to bring a little something so you aren’t the only person spending money on food. Don’t forget to make or buy a cake… you can’t have a garden party without cake!
Themed Pub Golf
If you haven’t heard of it before, pub golf is a drinking game which involves going on a pub crawl. You first need to decide on the number of pubs you will visit (in terms of golf, this is like the number of holes). Before you begin your pub crawl, you need to give each location a target number. This will determine how many sips or gulps it should take to finish your drink. If this target is hit, you are awarded a par which can be noted on a scoreboard.
To make this more exciting, come up with a theme of how everyone should dress. This could be in golf attire or you could do a competition of who can dress up the funniest.
Summer
Staying in and studying can be boring when it’s hot outside. Give yourself a break and celebrate summer.
The Beach Takeover
Many students who go to university by the sea often forget to visit the beach. Well here’s an excuse to have a beach day! Make picnic food like sandwiches, sliced fruit and sausage rolls to take with you. Bring a speaker as well and listen to music as the sun goes down.
If there isn’t a beach nearby, bring the beach to your garden! Get yourself a paddling pool and scatter beach towels around the garden. Play summer anthems on a speaker and enjoy a break from studying.
A BBQ Party
If the sun is shining and the sky is clear, then it’s the perfect time for a BBQ. Don’t worry if you don’t have a BBQ in your garden; many supermarkets sell disposable BBQs. Enjoying burgers in the sun is a great way to spend your evening after a long day of lectures!
Autumn
Autumn brings many celebrations along with it like Halloween and bonfire night.
Classic Halloween Party
Who doesn’t love a Halloween celebration? Dress up, get some food together and hang up a lot of scary decorations. With Halloween being such an exciting time, it’s easy to spend more money than you intend to. If you’re creative, you could make your own Halloween costume and decorations. When buying anything, set yourself spending limits to help you budget.
Bonfire Night
Invite some friends to your garden and huddle around a bonfire with toasted marshmallows. You could play a card game, make hot chocolates to enjoy and catch up on anything that’s happened recently.
Winter
Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you can’t still throw some of the best parties ever.
NYE Black Tie Event
You and your friends can pretend you’re celebrities in your own house for the evening. Search your wardrobe and dress up in your best attire. Lay down a red carpet (this could be something like a red towel) and do a celebrity photo shoot. You could even ask people to dress like a specific celebrity. Enjoy some drinks and count down to midnight for an unforgettable evening.
Traditional Christmas Party
Before your friends go home for Christmas, celebrate together by having ‘friendmas’. Make yourself a roast dinner or lay out picky bits on the table. To save some money on presents, do Secret Santa with everyone coming to your party. If you’ve never done it before, you use a hat full of names or an online generator to assign everyone with a person. You then come up with a budget and buy a present for the person you’ve been given. Christmas doesn’t have to be expensive; spending time with friends is rewarding enough!
