There’s plenty of buzz surrounding tree planting schemes; you might have seen news that casts them in a poor light.
Here at The Student Energy Group, we try to be as transparent as possible about everything we do.
You want the truth. We’re here to provide answers.
Keeping our promise
We promised to plant one tree for every property that signed up. We wanted to create a greener future.
The first part of our promise has been fulfilled, the second part is a goal we are always working toward.
Choosing the right partnership
Choosing our tree-planting partner wasn’t an easy task. It was important to us that the organization we chose knew their pines from their oaks, to make sure the right kinds of trees were planted in the right sort of locations. We did plenty of research.
This led us to partner with The Future Forest Company.
Measuring success
Trees absorb carbon over their lifetime, so it wouldn’t be fair for us to make specific claims about carbon offsetting, but we can measure the success of the project in other ways!
We have planted 7,589 trees.
Future Forest are very open about the plantings survival rate. Approximately 85 to 90% of trees survive initial planting and any that don’t are replaced within five years of growth.
Avoiding greenwashing
The Student Energy Group are dedicated to fighting climate change. We will always try to do the right thing for the planet.
However, we will not hide behind false statistics, and we will always remain open about the effectiveness of our attempts to help the environment. We will never use greenwashing tactics to make us appear more eco-friendly than we are.
Educating ourselves on all things environmental is an ongoing journey. We’re open to learning and will always try our best to make informed decisions based on the knowledge we have at the time.
